2005 Vintage

Location :
A limestone plateau and south facing slope of Saint-Emilion.

Vineyard size :
10,80 hectares (26.67 acres)

Density of plantation :
7,000 to 9,000 vines per hectare

Grape varieties :
- 95% Merlot
- 5% Cabernet Franc

Average age of the vines :
34 years

Yield in 2005 :
42.32 hectoliters per hectare

Vineyard management :
- Four ploughings of the soil
- Environmentally-friendly spray treatments
-Crop thinning

Growing season :
- Bud-break on April 4, 2005.
- Mid-flowering point on May 30, 2005 :
The flowering was early and rapid due to the very hot weather at the end of May.
- Veraison on July 30, 2005 :
The colour change occurred quickly due to the low water conditions.
- September, as the rest of the year, was dry.

Harvest :
Weather conditions were optimal. Rain on the night of September 9 (18 mm) refreshed the parched grapes allowing them to ripen perfectly.
Start of the harvest : September 14, 2005
End of the harvest : September 27, 2005

Vinification :
Both concrete and smaller stainless steel tanks are used, which allows fermentations parcel by parcel.
2 to 3 days of cold macerations for gentle extraction of the ripe tannins, the skin contact lasted an average of 19 days.
The malolactic fermentations ended mid-December 2005.

Aging :
As for the vinifications, the aging is done block by block. The first lots were barrelled mid-December using 30% new oak.

Blending :
Has not been completed yet.

Second wine :
For the 2005 vintage, we plan on producing a second wine under the label "Les Songes de Magdelaine".
