Figeac 2005 • June 2006
FIGEAC
1st Great Classified Growth
2005 Vintage

Geographical situation and vineyard :
Situated half-way between Saint Emilion and Libourne on the D 243 road, the estate of Château Figeac is in one single block covering an area of 53 hectares (130.91 acres), of which 40 hectares (98.8 acres) are under vine.
Figeac can definitely claim originality with its vines planted over three gravel mounds and its unusual proportions of grape varieties for Saint Emilion :
- 35% Cabernet Sauvignon
- 35% Cabernet Franc
and only 30% Merlot
The vines have an average age of 35 years, and those that produced the wine for the first label have an average of 45 years.

Vineyard management :
Sustainable viticulture techniques are carried out in the vines of Figeac. In those soils where gravel predominates, traditional ploughing is done ; only a few plots have grass seeded between the rows, in order to keep down the yields more easily.

Weather conditions :
As in 2003, the 2005 growing season was extremely dry. The main difference came from the cool nights during the summer which brought about an even and extraordinary ripening of the grapes in all the grape varieties. With relatively low yields of 36 hectolitres per hectare, the vines were able to produce grapes that were concentrated, ripe but not excessively so, enhancing the aromas of all the varietals.
We have therefore produced a vintage that can be described as outstanding.

Harvest :
The harvest began on September 14 with the Merlot and finished on October 4 with the Cabernet Sauvignon.
