6,600 plants per hectare.

Grape varieties:
90 % Merlot,
5 % Cabernet Franc,
5 % Cabernet Sauvignon.

Average age of the vines:
35 years.

2007 yield:
27,5 hectolitres per hectare.

Vineyard management:
Traditional viticulture combined with an environmentally-friendly approach (no weedkillers, chemical fertilisers or pesticides), and yields are controlled.
Plot by plot vineyard management.
Ploughing, Cordeau bordelaise pruning (leaving two canes).
De-budding in the spring.
De-leafing in July then crop thinning to enhance optimal ripening of the grapes.
Hand-picking with harvesting dates based on 3 criteria: ripeness checks, tasting of berries, and the taking into account of the estate’s different terroirs.

Vinification:
This is traditional and carried out in small, temperature controlled stainless steel vats.
Pumping over or rack and return (délestage). 21 to 28 days vatting.
90% of the free-run wine goes into new barrels.
The malo-lactic fermentation is done in barrels. The ageing on fine lees lasts between 12 and 24 months.
Racking through the small bunghole from barrel to barrel, determined by tasting. The final blending is carried out at the end of the ageing period, just before the bottling.
Second wine:
Mondot.

Volume of production estimation after blending:
Troplong Mondot: 60,000 bottles.
Mondot: 11,000 bottles.

The 2007 campaign:
The 2007 growing season was characterised by alternate periods of hot and cold and wet and dry weather, requiring intensive, precision work in the vineyard to keep the vines healthy.
From September 1st, hot weather set in for over a month, and grapes which had been carefully looked after were able to take full advantage of the fine weather conditions and reach full ripeness.
The harvest stretched out from the 9th to the 19th October 2007. It is the latest harvest at Troplong Mondot for 20 years. The picking was carried out by hand and the grapes were collected in small crates.
This year, new high-performance equipment was introduced for the sorting. This enabled five successive sortings at harvest reception. The final crop was therefore selected with great precision.

Tasting:
The 2007 Troplong Mondot displays a very dark, garnet colour.
The nose shows aromas of black fruit compote and subtle oak notes.
The palate is rich, fleshy and very full, and the tannins are fine and elegant.
A wine with breed and a surprising vintage!
